Health/Youth

The Health/Youth Working Group set out these priority strategies to implement the regional goal and objectives developed at the Farm Route to Prosperity Summit, February 24, 2009:

  • Ensure that families involved in the federal Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) assistance program are able to find and purchase local produce.
  • Identify, link, and promote learning and community gardening efforts in the region.
  • Identify, link, and promote food/farm youth entrepreneurship programs.
  • Identify, link, and promote farm to school efforts in the region
  • Use available community information media to link people and promote programs.
  • Bring the Double Up Food Bucks program to northwest Lower Michigan – which doubles the spending power of SNAP Bridge Card users at farmers markets – and provide ongoing support.
